Upcoming Salida Recreation Events and Classes for May 2018
ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS FOR K.O.R.E.! Kids’ Opportunities for Recreation Experience is a summer-long volunteer program for kids entering grades 7-9 in the fall. KORE volunteers will assist Recreation staff with developing, organizing and executing select programs throughout the summer. They will receive training, swim benefits and job experience. Applications are available at the pool or on our website www.salidarec.com/kore and must be submitted by May 4. Call Lanette at 539-5703 for more information.
SPRING POOL CLOSURE! The Hot Springs Aquatic Center will be closed Monday, May 7 through Saturday, May 12 for our annual spring clean-up. We will re-open on Mother’s Day, May 13 from noon to 6pm. Mother’s swim FREE that day (must attend with a child to receive the discount).
MAY APPRECIATION MONTH IS DEDICATED TO MOTHERS! In celebration of Mother’s Day and our pool re-opening after a week-long closure, all mothers are invited to swim FREE in the public pools on Sunday, May 13. We will be open from noon to 6pm. Mother’s must attend with a child to receive the discount.
JIVE AND DIVE! Friday, May 4 from 7 to 9pm, middle schoolers ONLY pool party. Admission is $5 per person. This will be the last Jive and Dive for the school year. We will resume these crazy, fun events in September.
AARP SMART DRIVER COURSE OFFERED! Tuesday, May 15 from 12:30 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the Community Room, Mt. Shavano Manor, 525 W. 16th St. in Salida. It is required that anyone attending bring their driver’s license to the class. This is a defensive driving and safety review program designed especially for those who are 50 years old and older. It will qualify and/or renew state qualifications for an insurance discount for those who are 55 or older (state law). The classroom course costs only $15 for AARP members and $20 for nonmembers. Class size is limited to 20. Preregistration at the front desk at the Aquatic Center or by calling 539-6738. Walk-in’s may register at the door if space is available. All participants must park on the street as off street parking is reserved for residents of Mt. Shavano Manor.
TOUCH A TRUCK AND BENEFIT PLANT SALE EVENT! Mark your calendar for Sunday, May 20 for Salida’s premier truck touching event AND a plant sale with a cause! The plant sale featuring garden starts from Weathervane Farm and hanging flower baskets from Brady's West, will begin at 11am and will benefit the Salida Montessori Charter School and Children's Discovery Ranch. A bake sale during the event will benefit Salida High School Cheer Team. They will also have t-shirts and window decals for sale. The event will be held in the parking lot and lawn east of the Salida Hot Springs Aquatic Center (410 W Hwy 50). The big rigs, equipment and trucks will begin arriving at 10:30am for exploration to begin at 11am. These events will wrap up at noon. This event is FREE to the public.
