Pianist Orli Shaham to perform Saturday, July 7

Renowned classical pianist Orli Shaham will open Salida Aspen Concerts’ 2018 season with a sweeping selection of works ranging from the baroque period to contemporary. Shaham will perform at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, July 7 at the Salida High School auditorium with works by Reich, Stravinsky, Bach and Ravel. “Orli Shaham imbues music with a beauty and grace that is truly remarkable,” said Molly Walker, president of Salida Aspen Concerts. “We’re honored to have her open our 42nd season.” The evening will open with Steven Reich’s Piano Phase, followed by Igor Stravinsky’s Septet and J.S. Bach’s Prelude and Fugue in A minor, BWV 543. Following a brief intermission, the performance will continue with Maurice Ravel’s Deux mélodies hébraïques before concluding with works by Paul Schoenfield and Reich. The performance, underwritten by Diesslin Structures, Inc., is made possible through generous community support and the ongoing partnership between Salida Aspen Concerts partners and the Aspen Music Festival and School. In addition to Shaham’s performance, year’s must-see lineup includes performances by American Brass Quintet, Anton Nel and Leonard Bernstein’s one-act opera, Trouble in Tahiti. Tickets are $15 for adults, with free admittance for students. Doors open at 6:30 p.m., followed by a pre-concert talk at 6:45 p.m. and the main performance at 7:30 p.m. Tickets and more information are available at www.salidaaspenconcerts.org
