Salvation Army seeking volunteers at November 2nd Organizational Meeting
An informational planning meeting for the Salvation Army kettle bell ringing season will be held Friday, November 2nd at 9:00 am at the Touber Building. Individual volunteers and representatives from local clubs and other groups are invited to come hear more about this opportunity to help with fundraising during the holiday season. Money collected locally stays local.
Teams of volunteers from charitable and other organizations are needed to participate in Salvation Army’s annual effort to generate funds to help local residents in need. Individuals wishing to volunteer may also come forward to join with others working on this effort. Each group will be able to sign up for specific dates and times between November 23 and December 24. The bell ringing campaign takes place at Walmart and Safeway in Salida and at City Market in Buena Vista.

Donations collected by volunteers help those in need here in Chaffee County. Ten percent of the funds raised are kept by the parent organization and ninety percent are used directly to help Chaffee County residents. In the past year alone, assistance checks have made a difference for 45 individuals or families in our community. Donations may help keep a roof over the heads of a family who have hit upon hard times or keep the gas and electricity on when payments become past due. Those is need may also find assistance available to help with a medical or dental procedure or help in certain other special situations. Nearly $26,000 was raised last year. Chaffee County intends to surpass that figure in 2018 with the help of more community volunteers.
Coffee and refreshments will be served at the informational meeting. The meeting will take place is the Shavano conference room on the second floor of the Touber Building located at 448 E. 1st Street.
