Friends of Salida Skateparks Offers Thanks to Community

Friends of Salida Skateparks recently held our kick-off fundraiser at Fun Street Family Arcade. We had an amazing outpour of community support. The arcade was packed with families eager to help support our mission to raise capital to build a new skatepark in Salida.
The existing skatepark was built over twenty years ago. In fact, it was one of the first skateparks built by professional skatepark builder Team Pain in Colorado. Skaters from around the state used to travel to Salida just to skate our park! Thank you to then mayor, Ralph Taylor for giving Salida’s youth a place to recreate. You were truly visionary during your term as mayor!
Skateboarding is so many things. It can be called a sport, an art form, a lifestyle, and a culture. Skateboarding is one of the healthiest things you can give your mind, body, and soul. Did you know skateboarding will be making its debut in the Summer Olympic Games in 2020 in Tokyo? It is one of the most rapidly growing action sports worldwide.
Over the past twenty years, wear and tear at our existing park has become evident. We’ve all witnessed the growth and change Salida has experienced as well. We simply have more youth living here eager to recreate. Our goal is to build a larger park that will safely accommodate users of all ages, ability levels, and disciplines.
Friends of Salida Skateparks would like to give a special thanks to the following businesses and individuals who immediately stepped up to support this important cause: High Country Bank, Fun Street Family Arcade, Su Casa, Ruby Blues, Badfish, Subculture Cyclery, Little Cambodia, Moonlight Pizza, Salida Mountain Sports, Kaleidoscope Toys, Alpha Dog Care, Shred Ready Helmets, Salida Bike Company, Brinkley Messick, Rivertown Skateboards, Lyn Henderson, Tisha Leewaye, Susan & Zack Hughes, Amaihah Trujillo, Ryan O’Brien & Brett Vogel, Alys Bruffy, Element Skateboards, and all of the individuals who attended and supported us by filling our donation jars and bidding on silent auction items. We are filled with gratitude!
