Volunteers needed: Hands For Lands helps out at Kelly Ranch April 27-28
On the weekend of April 27 and 28, Hands For Lands will help clean ditches at the Kelly Ranch, just south of Buena Vista. The Kelly Ranch is a gorgeous property, permanently protected by conservation easement. It has the largest natural fen at this altitude in Colorado, and was recently added to the National Historical Places register. Dave Kelly helped to start the Hands for Lands program encouraging volunteers to help local ranchers with land stewardship projects. He has generously offered to provide a BBQ lunch for volunteers who come to help out. He said his fields are starting to look thirsty and it's time to get water out on the meadows to green up the grass and recharge these fantastic wetlands. This will be a fun project that involves cleaning the ditch on Friday and then turning the water on! A bucket brigade will help clear gravel out of the head of the ditch. On Saturday it will be time to don rubber boots and get in the ditch with the water flowing to clear leaf and stick jams that develop in the ditch. I hope you can join us for one or both days.
Saturday, April 27 - 9 am to 2 or 3 pm with lunch provided by the Kellys
Sunday April 28 - 9 am to noon
