Guidestone's Summer Opportunities at the Hutchinson Homestead and Community & School Farm

Guidestone’s Community & School Farm is hosting a High Altitude Gardening Adult Education Series two Mondays per month from 5:00 to 6:30 pm, now through September. Each garden class will include a half hour presentation of information on the week’s topic, followed by an hour of hands-on application, taught by Guidestone Farm to School Director, Monica Pless. Afterwards, attendees can purchase produce, subject to seasonal availability. We will discuss Watering and Irrigation Systems (May 20th), Weed Prevention and Management Techniques (June 10th), Permaculture Techniques (June 24th), Pollinators and Pest Management (July 8th), Efficient Harvest Techniques & Keeping Veggies Fresh (July 22nd), Home-Scale Composting (August 12th), Basic Seed Saving Techniques (August 26th), and Low-Tech Season Extension Techniques (September 16th) and Preparing the Garden for Winter (September 30th). Meet at the Community & School Farm, located at 1455 Holman Ave (next to the dog park). Cost is $10 in advance; $15 at the gate. Anyone under 16 must be accompanied by an adult. Please bring your compost to drop off!

For those interested in summer volunteer opportunities, we invite you to help us grow healthy produce for Salida Schools' lunch program by participating in Community & School Farm Volunteer Days. From June to September, please join us at 1455 Holman Ave in Salida (next to the dog park) on Mondays from 8:00 am to noon and 5:30 to 6:30 pm, and Fridays from 8:00 am to noon. Bring a water bottle, sunscreen, and enthusiasm. We have work gloves and gardening tools, but feel free to bring your own. All are welcome! No experience is necessary. Stay tuned: volunteer hours will shift in October.
