Creative Mixer is Thursday June 11

The Salida Council for the Arts will hold its monthly Creative Mixer on Thursday, June 11 at 5:30 pm in the Salida SteamPlant. The popular gathering provides a forum for area artists, writers, musicians, art lovers and community members to socialize, catch up on the latest, and network on a casual basis. The event is free and open to the public.

Featured guest artists at this month's Mixer are Salida's noted husband-and-wife creative duo of Bea and Mel Strawn. Bea, a highly regarded sculptor whose work has been exhibited nationally, creates graceful sculptures from combinations of wood, metals, color, found natural objects. Mel, a Denver University Professor Emeritus and pioneer of early digital art, is known for his paintings, stone and solar lithography, and manipulated photographs. Along with their son Ben, the Strawns were featured in the recent exhibit "Colorado Abstract: Painting and Sculpture" at Metropolitan State College Center for Visual Art in Denver, as well as a book by the same name. An exhibit of their work at the SteamPlant's Paquette Gallery will remain on display through the end of June.

The Creative Mixer's featured musician will be Buena Vista dobro player and recording artist Douglas Francisco. Guests may also enjoy free hors d'oeuvres, a cash bar, and the perennial favorite "soapbox", where everyone is invited to stand up and share news and announcements of interest to the crowd.
