Grammy-nominated jazz ensemble performs in Salida June 28!

"JAZZ/LATIN FUSION!", a concert by Grammy-nominated jazz ensemble Bill Hill & Friends, will hit the stage Sunday June 28 at 7:30 pm in Salida. Because of anticipated crowd size to hear these nationally renowned recording artists, the concert venue has been moved from the SteamPlant to the larger Salida High School Auditorium.

Bill Hill and Friends is an internationally acclaimed group of some of America's most celebrated jazz, rock, and classical musicians. The individual members have worked together for the past 30 years and performed throughout the world; and have appeared with such jazz legends as Eddie Daniels, Dizzy Gillespie, George Benson, Doc Severinsen and many more.

Widely hailed as "one of the nation's finest jazz ensembles", the group never fails to draw raves from audiences and critics alike. Their concerts typically include a number of original compositions and masterpieces from the standard jazz repertory; and in true jazz tradition, the evening's program usually is an "anything can happen!" improvisation.

Their breakout two-CD set "Bill Hill and Friends Live: Jazz/Latin Fusion" was nominated for four Grammy awards: Best New Jazz Album, Best New Instrumental Composition, Best Improvised Solo, and Best Production. Autographed CDs will be available at a Meet-&-Greet with the musicians following the Salida concert.

Musician and Composer Bill Hill has been Principal Timpanist with the Colorado Symphony for the past thirty-three years, and is an instructor at the University of Denver Lamont School of Music. His award-winning compositions range from symphonies to jazz and chamber music, and are performed regularly across the U.S. and throughout the world. They have been recorded by numerous groups including the Moravian Philharmonic of the Czech Republic.

Members of the Bill Hill & Friends Jazz Ensemble also slated to appear include headliners Chuck Schneider, saxophone; Dave Hanson, keyboards; Neil Haverstick, guitar; Ron Bland, bass; Nadya Hill, violin and vocals; and Colin Hill, drums/percussion.

Presented by Republic National Distributing Co. in conjunction with Symphonic Salida and KHEN Community Radio, this appearance by Colorado Symphony superstars Bill Hill & Friends is the fourth and final event of the 2014-15 Symphonic Salida season. Salida currently is the only city outside of Denver to be honored with regular performances by the Colorado Symphony; and another 2015-16 season already is being planned to launch in September.

Advance tickets for Bill Hill & Friends may be purchased now at a 10% discount ($18 each) at the SteamPlant box office, Salida Chamber of Commerce, or SymphonicSalida.org. Last-minute tickets--if any still are available--will be $20 at the door (students $10)...but the previous Symphonic Salida event was a standing-room-only sellout, so advance purchase is strongly recommended.
