Salida Rec's New Year's Day 5K and 2016 Fitness Challenge

Join Salida Rec for our 6th Annual New Year’s Day 5K Fun Run/Walk! Get some exercise, hang out with friends and meet new people – what a great way to kick off the new year! We even plan for a later start for those of you who may have stayed up too late the night before. This is a beginner friendly event, so if you’ve never participated in an organized walk/run event before, this is the perfect place to start. Moms and dads, strollers are welcome at this event and pet owners – your well behaved dogs are also welcome. We’ll award prizes to the top finishers and best costumes and have hot drinks, sparkling cider and snacks for everyone. Pre-registration is available at the pool, or register on race day, beginning at 9am at the Scout Hut. Cost is $10; scholarships are available for youth under age 18. Race begins at 10am at the Salida Scout Hut on January 1.

We're also holding our Fitness Challenge this January. This is our 6th Annual Fitness Challenge, and we’re switching things up a bit this year! Our goal is to celebrate a more complete spectrum of health and wellness, and to give adults, kids, and families a chance once a week to learn and practice techniques to improve their health in many different ways.

Join us every Monday of our month long challenge at the Scout Hut from 6:00 – 7:15pm for an interactive, informative, and fun discussion on each of the following topics.

Monday, January 11: Social Health and Wellness • “Hanging out with Friends – It’s Good for You!”

Monday, January 18: Physical Health and Wellness – Nutrition • “Trust us, Healthful Food Does Taste Good!”

Monday, January 25: Public Health in Chaffee County • “Being Healthy in Chaffee County – Let’s Count the Ways!”

Monday, February 1: Physical Health and Wellness – Physical Activity • “Get Up, Get Moving, and Have Fun!”

These talks are FREE, and are appropriate for kids and adults. We will split up the kids and adults at times to keep topics relevant for attendees of all ages. Our goal is for the entire family to embrace health and wellness, and encourage you to bring along family members of all ages, young or old!
