Winter Biking in the Upper Ark Valley (including FAT Bikes!)
Even though it’s the dead of winter, the weather is still perfect for riding the trails, roads or streets in the Arkansas River Valley! On Wednesday, February 17, GARNA is partnering with Brett Beasley, recreation and snow ranger with the US Forest Service Salida Ranger District and Shawn Gillis, owner of Absolute Bikes to deliver a winter biking program sharing the nuances of winter bike riding such as trail etiquette, weather considerations, riding tips, gear/clothing, and options for bike equipment such as fat tire bikes. Shawn has offered to lead a guided trail ride exclusively for program participants on Sunday, February 21 to practice riding tips. Absolute Bikes will offer discounted rates for fat tire bike rentals for this trail ride on the 21st so you can see for yourself what the buzz is about.
The talk will be on Wednesday, February 17 from 6:30 until 8:00 pm. The Salida Ranger District is hosting the program at their facility, 5575 Cleora Road in Salida, and it will be open to the public free of charge. We ask that you pre-register by emailing [email protected] so we can plan for the number of participants attending. Those participants interested in the trail ride will sign up during the program.
If you are curious about winter riding or about fat tire bikes, this program is for you!
