COLORADO SYMPHONY AGAIN PICKS SALIDA; VOLUNTEERS NEEDED
It's official! For the 2016-17 season, Salida again has been chosen as the only town outside of Denver to host regular performances by the Colorado Symphony. This marks the fifth year in a row that Salida has been so honored; and local volunteers are being recruited to help make it happen.
The announcement was made by Scott Adams, Chairman of the Symphonic Salida Steering Committee--which partners with KHEN Community Radio to stage the popular concerts. In addition to performances at the SteamPlant, Symphony musicians also stage free mini-concerts at local schools as part of a successful youth outreach program.
Adams stated that the 2016-17 Symphonic Salida season is expected to include four blockbuster concerts. In October, renowned harpist Courtney Hershey Bress returns in a duo harp recital with her legendary teacher, Kathleen Bride. In February 2017, an unorthodox quartet of noted double bass players will present "Bass, Bach, and Beyond". March will debut "New Kids On The Block", a dynamic mixed ensemble of top Orchestra newcomers. And the 2017 lineup literally will end with a bang as the Symphony's master percussionists perform "Drums!", an energetic crowd-pleaser of unprecedented force and diversity.
Music-loving volunteers are needed to help Symphonic Salida work with the visiting musicians, plan and stage the concerts. "The players love coming to Salida," said Adams, "and we have a blast entertaining them. Members of our Steering Committee enjoy a rare opportunity to meet and socialize with the musicians, attend private after-parties, interact with educators and the community, and be part of Salida's vibrant cultural life". Interested potential volunteers should contact Scott Adams at (719) 221-3044 or [email protected]
There are two concerts remaining in the current Symphonic Salida season: The Ivy Street Ensemble chamber trio performs April 21; and the Grammy-nominated Bill Hill & Friends jazz ensemble returns May 26. All concerts begin at 7:30 pm at the SteamPlant; and $18 advance tickets are available now at SymphonicSalida.org, the Salida SteamPlant, and the Salida and Buena Vista Chambers of Commerce.
