Upcoming Events and Classes with Salida Recreation
JIVE AND DIVE! Friday, April 1 from 7 to 9pm, middle schoolers ONLY pool party. Admission is $5 per person and includes a light snack.
CAMP FRIDAY! Our Spring Session of CAMP Friday begins April 1 and will continue for the next 4 Fridays in April (4/1, 4/8, 4/15, 4/22 and 4/29). All CAMPS will be from 9 to noon. Each day will include something different:
April 1 - Meet at Alpine Park, between 4th & 5th Streets and E & F Streets, at 9am. We will take a short walk to the community center for an hour of musical exploration with Articipate. We will then head back to Alpine Park for outside play and games with Salida Recreation. Pick-up at Alpine Park.
April 8 – Meet at Chisholm Park, 324 Hunt Street, at 9am for art exploration, outside play, and organized games with Salida Recreation. Noon pick-up at Chisholm Park.
April 15 & 22 – Meet at Maverick Potter, 119 F Street, at 9am for clay play. Mark Rittman will have the kids working with their hands to create their own one-of-a-kind masterpiece! Noon pick-up at Maverick Potter.
April 29 – Meet at Chisholm Park, 324 Hunt Street, at 9am for art exploration, outside play, and organized games with Salida Recreation. Noon pick-up at Chisholm Park.
Preregistration is required. No drop-ins accepted. All registrations and liability waivers must be completed at the aquatics center at least three days prior to the Friday camp. All programs are $5 per child. Morning snacks will be provided. CAMP Friday has a strict NO PEANUT OR NUT INGREDIENTS policy. APRIL IS TEACHER AND SCHOOL STAFF/ADMINISTRATORS MONTH! All teachers, employees, administrators and district employees can bring in a current paystub or other proof of employment and swim FREE in the public pools all month long.
EARTH DAY 2016! Join us for a Earth Day celebration at Riverside Park and the Scout Hut for fun, educational, community classes and programs for all ages. XERISCAPE VS. DRYLAND GARDENING CLASS! How do you create a garden that is beautiful AND uses less water or little water? This class is the primer in the basics of two very different options you have available in Salida’s gardening climate. Taught by Frank Haas, a landscape architect, information covered in this class will take you a long way toward gardening success. 1.5 hr class in lecture format. Class will take place Monday, April 18 at the Scout Hut from 6-7:30pm. Cost is $12. Preregistration required at the aquatics center. No drop-ins accepted.
PLANNING YOUR XERISCAPE GARDEN CLASS! In this two session workshop you will learn to draw a basic map of your backyard and begin to create a strategy for water savings. After creating your map, you will focus on zoning your property based in water usage. Taught by Frank Haas, a landscape architect, this class overs aspects of design unique to creating a Xeriscape garden. Two 1.5 hr classes. Limit 15 students. Class will take place Mondays, April 25 and May 2 at the Scout Hut from 6-7:30pm. Cost is $25. Preregistration required at the aquatics center. No drop-ins accepted.
K.O.R.E.! Kids’ Opportunities for Recreation Experience is a summer-long volunteer program for kids entering grades 6-9 in the fall. KORE volunteers will assist Recreation staff with developing, organizing and executing select programs throughout the summer. They will receive training, swim benefits, job experience and a special field trip in August to complete their recreation experience!
