Colorado Symphony musicians offer FREE drumming clinic to Salida!

Bill Hill, acclaimed Principal Timpanist for the Colorado Symphony, will conduct a FREE drumming clinic for all Salida drum enthusiasts on Tuesday, May 24, 6-7 pm at the Salida Community Center. Hill will be joined by his son, Colin Hill, who also is a nationally recognized master drummer.

The famous duo will share information and demonstrations of jazz, rock, fusion, and various styles of ethnic drumming. The free clinic was generously proposed by Hill himself; and is being coordinated by Symphonic Salida and Trevor "Bones" Davis of Articipate. Music fans of all ages are welcome to attend at no charge; but space is limited, and participants must reserve a place in advance by emailing [email protected]

The Hills will be in Salida to perform in the "Bill Hill & Friends" Symphonic Salida concert on Thursday, May 26, 7:30 pm at the SteamPlant. Their 7-member ensemble--which performed in Salida last year to a sellout crowd--is described as "an astonishing group of some of America's finest jazz, rock, and classical musicians."

Musician/composer William Hill has been Principal Timpanist with the Colorado Symphony for the past 35 years. His award-winning compositions have been performed and recorded by numerous groups across the U.S. and Europe. Mr. Hill also does educational programs on World Percussion where he performs on his collection of more than 200 instruments from around the world. He teaches composition at the University of Denver Lamont School of Music, and is Music Director/Conductor of the Evergreen Chamber Orchestra.

Colin Hill is known as a superbly talented jazz drummer, percussionist, and electronic music composer. He studies at the University of Colorado as a jazz major and has been playing professional gigs in several of Denver's jazz clubs since the age of 14. As a member of the Colorado Conservatory for Jazz Arts award-winning groups, he performed at the National Jazz Educators Conference in Atlanta, and is a former recipient of the Louis Armstrong National Jazz Award.
