FIBArk Land Races hosted by Salida Recreation

(Salida, Colorado) –The Salida Recreation Department encourages athletes to sign up by noon on June 15th for this year’s FIBArk running and mountain bike races. After the 15th, all registrations will need to be done on-site on race day, which costs an additional $5 per race. Registration forms are available at salidarec.com and at the Salida Hot Springs Aquatic Center, or participants can register on-line at fibark.com. Maps of all land event courses are also available on-line.

Four running races and a mountain bike race will be offered during the FIBArk Festival, starting with the Tenderfoot Hill Climb on Thursday, June 16 at 6pm. In this race, competitors scramble straight up and down the face of Tenderfoot Mountain, starting and finishing at the stoplight on 1st and ‘F’ Streets. The fastest runners finish in under twelve minutes!

The 5K and 10K Road Races will be held on Saturday, June 18 at 8am. These events start and end on the mesa by Thonhoff Park (by the Chaffee County courthouse) and take racers along Salida’s county roads. Salida Rec will also offer a free, un-timed 1 mile kids’ fun run around Thonhoff Park at approximately 8:30am. No pre-registration is necessary for the kids’ fun run although parents will need to sign a waiver race day morning.

The 10k Trail Run and the Arkansas Hills Mountain Bike Race will take place Sunday morning, June 19. The trail run begins at 8am while the mountain bike races begin at 10:00am. All races begin and end by the F St. bridge and take place on the Arkansas Hills trail system. Course length and difficulty for the mountain bike race varies by category.

Runners can also choose to participate in the Triple Crown event. This competition requires that racers run the Tenderfoot Hill Climb, 10K Road Race, and Trail Run. The winners are the male and female competitors with the fastest combined times from all three races.

Prizes will be awarded to the top competitors in each race. These prizes have been provided by FIBArk sponsors, including many local businesses, so please stop by and thank them for their support!

The Salida Recreation Department is also looking for volunteers. Volunteers are crucial to the success of our events, and are needed for all of the races. Volunteering is a great way to participate if you do not wish to compete in an event.
