ROCKIES BASEBALL SKILLS CHALLENGE! Join us for fun, challenging competitions in batting, throwing, and base running...just like a real Rockies player! Boys and girls ages 6 to 13 will be broken out into skills, gender and age categories. The winner in each category from Salida will advance to a sectional competition (held in Pueblo) with a chance of advancing to state finals!! Competition takes place at the big field at Marvin Park, located along Hwy 291. Registration begins at 4pm with challenges beginning at 4:45pm. This is FREE to all - Spectators welcome!!

THURSDAYS@6 SUMMER CONCERT SERIES KICK OFF!! The much anticipated summer concert series presented by the Go-To-Guide and Salida Recreation will kick off this Thursday, June 9 with Wooden Rain. This series of 10 concerts will happen every Thursday evening in Riverside Park from 6-8pm (except June 17). The concerts are free, but donations are collected each week to benefit the Salida Recreation Youth Scholarship Fund. The fund is available for any qualifying family to use towards any Salida Recreation sponsored program or swim pass. Food and beverages are not available at the park - pack a picnic and bring the whole gang!

SUMMER CAMP FRIDAYS! Join Salida Recreation every Friday morning (no camp June 17) for a couple hours from 10am to noon for fun with movement and fitness- jumping, running, hiking, wiggling, spinning– to get your little ones active and learning. We will also be doing some creative play with chalk, paint, and anything else we find. Each week we will meet a different park and every other week we will walk to Boys & Girls Club of Chaffee County for free lunch. On those days (6/10, 6/24, 7/8, 7/22, 8/5) please pick your child up at 12:45pm at the B&G Club or arrange for your child to stay with B&G Club staff in the afternoon (must be B&G Club members). Pick up a complete schedule at the pool or find it at salidarec.com/guide. Dates are Fridays, June 3-Aug 5, 10am-noon (12:45pm pick up on dates specified at B&G Club). Cost is $5; Ages: 5-8. Must pre-register, no drop-ins accepted.

L.INE DANCING BEGINS JUNE 9! Learn the steps, feel the music and practice to the beat! Betty Scofield will be back again to teach this terrific class. Betty specializes in showing a wide range of people with varying ability levels how to have fun on the dance floor. No matter when you start, or at what level, you’ll catch up in no time. This is a great opportunity to get out and move to music while getting exercise at the same time. No partner required. Mondays and Thursdays, 11am-noon, June 13 through September 22 at the Scout Hut at Riverside Park. Cost is $4 per day, no pre-registration required. All ages welcome!
POOL CLOSURE THIS WEEKEND! The Aquatic Center will close for public swim at NOON on Friday, June 10 and will remain closed ALL DAY Saturday, June 11 and Sunday, June 12, while our Salida Cyclones host the annual Alicia Leavitt Memorial Swim Meet. There will be no individual soaking pools or showers available during this time frame. Show your support and come cheer for your hometown swim team - Go Cyclones!

PARENTS’ NIGHT OUT! It’s time for a night on the town! Bring the kids to the Scout Hut for a fun night of games, movies, treats, and playtime! Salida Rec’s staff and middle school K.O.R.E. volunteers will be here to entertain your child while you enjoy a date night or just a little solitude. This is also an excellent opportunity to meet new babysitters with great training so you can treat yourself more often! Children must be potty-trained. First Parents’ Night Out is this Friday, June 10 from 5:30 to 8:30pm at the Scout Hut at Riverside Park. Cost is $10/child, $5/additional sibling. Pre-registration required, not drops-ins accepted. Future dates are July 8 and August 5.

BASKETBALL AND VOLLEYBALL CAMPS! Join Salida Recreation this summer for 3-day youth sport camps. These camps are intended to introduce children to the sports of basketball and volleyball. No experience necessary. Coached instruction will be provided along with fun games and real-time game scenarios. Please bring comfortable clothes and water. Co-ed Basketball, Monday, June 20 through Wednesday, June 22. Grades K-3, 10am-noon (Mon & Tues), grades 4-6: 12:30-2:30pm (Mon & Tues). The last day of camp, Wed, June 22 all grades will be combined from 9-11am. Girls Volleyball with coaches Janine Frazee and Jodi Weiss, Monday, June 27 through Wednesday, June 29. Grades 2-4, 9-11am, grades 5-6: 12-2pm. Grades listed are for “entering” grade level. Cost: $35 per 3-day camp and will take place at Longfellow Elementary Gymnasium.
