Upcoming Salida Recreation Events and Classes for July 2016
FREE ICE CREAM SOCIAL! Salida Recreation would like to help you celebrate Parks and Recreation month in July! We will host our last free ice cream social Tuesday, July 26 at Centennial Park. These ice cream socials are meant to bring the community together in our public spaces. Each social will be from 6-7pm.
PARK-N-POOL! No better place to be this summer than at the pool….and at the park! Each Monday during the summer we will spend an hour in the pool, head out to Centennial Park for a snack, and then spend the last 45 minutes outside with park play and lawn games. No pre-registration required. Kids under 4’ must be able to swim 1 length of the lap pool to be left unattended, so get those swim lessons in early this summer! All ages welcome! Mondays through August 8, 1-3pm at the Aquatic Center and Centennial Park. Cost is $5/person.
MOUNT PRINCETON FIELD TRIP! Our neighbors in Nathrop have an amazing 400 foot water slide and we’re going to visit! A short walk to the top of the water slide, jump on your mat and ride the six giant turns emptying into the 75-degree pool - perfect for a hot summer’s day! Bring a lunch or money, water, sunscreen, suit, towel and a change of clothes. Tuesday, August 2, 10am-2pm, drop-off & pick-up at Aquatic Center. Cost: under 12, $15; 12 and over, $20. All ages welcome; under 8 must be accompanied by an adult (kids under 4’ MUST be able to swim 25 meters).
PARENTS’ NIGHT OUT! It’s time for a night on the town! Bring the kids to the Scout Hut for a fun night of games, movies, treats, and playtime! Salida Rec’s staff and middle school K.O.R.E. volunteers will be here to entertain your child while you enjoy a date night or just a little solitude. This is also an excellent opportunity to meet new babysitters with great training so you can treat yourself more often! Children must be potty-trained. Friday, August 5 from 5:30 to 8:30pm at the Scout Hut at Riverside Park. Cost is $10/child, $5/additional sibling. Pre-registration required, not drops-ins accepted.
CAPTAIN ZIPLINE FIELD TRIP! The Canyon Aerial Course complex is an amazing structure in Lost Canyon that consists of interconnected "elements" up in the air. Elements such as swinging bridges, swinging logs, cargo nets, balance beams and tunnels pose challenges while developing skills and building confidence. A "Smart Belay" system keeps the participant clipped to the safety cable at all times. Bring snacks, water, sunscreen and layered clothing. Wednesday, August 10, 8am-noon, drop-off & pick-up at Aquatic Center. Cost: $45/person; Ages: 8+
PRESCHOOL PARKS AT THE MARKET! This drop-in program is designed to allow your little one the opportunity to play and paint, stretch and shape, giggle and gallop in the energetic and lively environment of the Farmers Market! Kids will have fun and socialize, and parents may pick up a few ideas to try at home! Saturday, August 13 we will explore music & rhythm from 10-11am at the Alpine Park Farmer’s Market. Suggested donation $5 per family, ages 5 and under, parents and siblings are encouraged to join the fun.
