Upcoming Salida Recreation Events and Classes for August 2016
PARENTS’ NIGHT OUT! It’s time for a night on the town! Bring the kids to the Scout Hut for a fun night of games, movies, treats, and playtime! Salida Rec’s staff and middle school K.O.R.E. volunteers will be here to entertain your child while you enjoy a date night or just a little solitude. This is also an excellent opportunity to meet new babysitters with great training so you can treat yourself more often! Children must be potty-trained. Friday, August 5 from 5:30 to 8:30pm at the Scout Hut at Riverside Park. Cost is $10/child, $5/additional sibling. Pre-registration required, not drops-ins accepted.
UPDATED - CAPTAIN ZIPLINE FIELD TRIP! Participants will have the choice to do the Lost Canyon Zipline Course OR the Lost Canyon Aerial Ropes Course. The Zipline Course: suspend your fear as you zip along our cables, reaching speeds up to 40 mph, and soar over the canyon floor some 100-200 feet below! Guests come for the adventure, but they get a whole lot more--while taking short hikes between the platforms, they can marvel at the 300 million-year-old colorful rocky cliffs, look down at the 1890 lime kiln ruins and abandoned silver mine shaft, or learn about the area's rich past, steeped in mining and Wild West history. Aerial Course: test your skills and push your limits on aerial elements such as swinging bridges, swinging logs, cargo nets, balance beams and tunnels. There are 9 different courses to choose from ranging from beginner to expert. A “Smart Belay” system keeps participants clipped to the safety cable at all times. Wednesday, August 10, 8am-noon, drop-off & pick-up at Aquatic Center. Cost: $50/person; AGES 6+ (under 9 will need to be accompanied by an adult. Register at Salida Aquatic Center
or call (719) 539-6738 at least 3 days before trip. Bring snacks, water, sunscreen and layered clothing.
PRESCHOOL PARKS AT THE MARKET! This drop-in program is designed to allow your little one the opportunity to play and paint, stretch and shape, giggle and gallop in the energetic and lively environment of the Farmers Market! Kids will have fun and socialize, and parents may pick up a few ideas to try at home! Saturday, August 13 we will explore music & rhythm from 10-11am at the Alpine Park Farmer’s Market. Suggested donation $5 per family, ages 5 and under, parents and siblings are encouraged to join the fun.
