Upcoming Salida Recreation Events and Classes for September 2016
PARENT/TOT SWIM LESSONS! This American Red Cross Aquatics course will familiarize young children with the water and guide parents in ways to help their child to become a swimmer. The course will focus on water safety, advice on supervising water activities, and hints on helping your child become more confident in the water. Ages 6 months - 3 years. Parents are required to be in the water. Saturdays, Sept. 10 through Oct. 1, 9am (45 minute class). Cost is $45, includes pool admission and lesson for 1 child and 1 adult. Additional adults may join for $10 (entire session). Call or come by the aquatic center to register. Payment must be received at time of registration. Scholarships available. No drop-ins accepted.
PRESCHOOL PARKS AT THE MARKET! This drop-in program is designed to allow your little one the opportunity to play and paint, stretch and shape, giggle and gallop in the energetic and lively environment of the Farmers Market! Kids will have fun and socialize, and parents may pick up a few ideas to try at home! Saturday, September 10 we will explore nature & science from 10-11am at the Alpine Park Farmer’s Market. Suggested donation $5 per family, ages 5 and under, parents and siblings are encouraged to join the fun.
SALIDA IS HOME TO THE 5th ANNUAL SALIDA BIKEFEST! Salida Bikefest takes place Sept. 15-18. This four day festival celebrates bicycles of all kinds! Various groups in Salida have teamed up to create and promote unique and fun bike events throughout the week including free group rides, bike films, a chainless race, a traveling vintage bike museum, kids bike decorating for a bike parade, a bike swap, and free live music in Riverside Park, plus much more! Registration is open for the Banana Belt Mountain Bike Race and the 18th Annual Monarch Crest Crank. JIVE AND DIVE! Friday, Sept. 16 from 7 to 9pm, middle schoolers ONLY pool party. Admission is $5 per person and includes a light snack.
CAPTAIN ZIPLINE FIELD TRIPS! Two Captain Zipline Lost Canyon aerial course field trips to choose from: Adult “Nighttime is Playtime” trip on Saturday, Sept. 24 OR the Family FUNdraiser trip on Saturday, Oct. 1. The Adult field trip will be Saturday, Sept. 24 from 6:30-10:30pm, ages 21 and over, cost is $59/person and includes equipment and guides. The course will be lit up and a bonfire will be below you! Pre-registration is required. Bring water and snacks. Meet at the aquatic center; we will carpool to Wellsville and back. Join Salida Recreation for a family fun trip to raise money for the Youth Scholarship Fund, October 1, 9am-1pm. Ages 8 and over, families are encouraged. Cost is $59/person, HALF will go towards the scholarship fund (after guides & tips). Pre-registration required. Bring water and snacks. Meet at aquatic center; transportation provided.
