LTUA hosts Salida field program at Pinon Hills Thursday, Sept. 29
Visit one of Chaffee County’s natural preserves by joining the Land Trust of the Upper Arkansas Naturalist Sally Waterhouse on Thursday, Sept. 29, at the Land Trust's property in Pinon Hills north of Salida.
Waterhouse will explore and explain the value of protecting this pinyon/juniper habitat on the 12-acre property on top of the subdivision, which has great views of town.
“Some hands-on exploration will help us appreciate this habitat and other unique values of this particular property,” Waterhouse said.
Her lifetime of experience as an educator and naturalist has helped Waterhouse become an effective and dynamic teacher. She strives to foster connections between people and the natural world, working to showcase LTUA’s preserved land and waterways.
This is the second in a series of learning opportunities on one of LTUA’s preserved lands. The event — during which participants will traverse across uneven ground and hike uphill — is a special opportunity to visit a property that has limited public access.
The program starts at 9:30 a.m. and will last for two hours. Pre-registration is required and specific directions will be given at the time of registration.
The program is free for LTUA members and $5 for non-members. The program is designed for adults and children over 12 years of age. To register call the Land Trust at 539-7700 or email [email protected]
