Fall Races with the Chaffee County Running Club

The Chaffee County Running Club will organize 2 running races this fall in Salida: the Goblin Gallop and the Two Turkey Relay. The CCRC organizes these races each year as a fun way to celebrate the holidays, while also furthering its mission of promoting running for health, recreation, and competition, for runners of all ages and abilities.

First up is the annual Goblin Gallop event for Longfellow Elementary School students. This FREE one mile-fun run takes place on Halloween, Monday, October 31. The Chaffee County Running Club and Salida High School Cross Country will team up to organize this fun seasonal event. Registration forms are available at Longfellow the week before Halloween and last minute registration will be available at the start of the race. Kids will chase the Goblin for one mile and gift bags, awards, and a drawing will be held at the end. Costumes are encouraged. Come out and join the fun this Halloween! For more information email Sarah at [email protected].

The 16th Annual Two Turkey Relay will take place on November 12 at 10am. Registration will begin at 9:00am at the Riverside Park Amphitheater and we will begin picking teams at 9:30am. This is a mostly for fun, two person relay race. The first team member will run a two-mile loop on paved and unpaved roads, running CR 175, Spiral Drive and CR 177. The runner will tag his or her teammate, who will run the same loop. A two minute handicap is given to all females, anyone under 13 years old, and anyone over the age of 60. Cost is $3 for CCRC members and $5 for non members. All registration will be done on site. Participants of any age are encouraged to enter if they can run continuously for two miles. The CCRC is also looking for people to bake pies or any other Thanksgiving themed dessert as prizes - please contact Kristy at [email protected] if you're interested or if you have any other questions.

This race was originated by Don Breece, and continues for its 16th year in his memory. The running club will also have membership forms available at the race for anyone who is interested in renewing their current membership, or becoming a new club member.
