Upcoming Salida Recreation Events and Classes for June 2017

REGISTRATION OPEN FOR FIBARK LAND EVENTS! Salida Recreation presents the Land Events for the annual FIBArk celebration. Races include the Tenderfoot Hill Climb Thursday, June 15, 5K and 10K Road Races Saturday, June 17, 10K Trail Run Sunday, June 18 and Mountain Bike Races Sunday, June 18. Pre-registration is available online at fibark.com or in person at the Salida Hot Springs Aquatic Center, and is encouraged! All pre-registrations must be received by noon on Wednesday, June 14, 2017. Race day registrations will be charged an additional $5. Entries are non-refundable and non-transferable.

PARENTS’ NIGHT OUT! It’s time for a night on the town! Bring the kids to the Scout Hut for a fun night of games, movies, treats, and playtime! Salida Rec’s staff and recent Babysitter 101 graduates will be here to entertain your child while you enjoy a date night or just a little solitude.This is also an excellent opportunity to meet new babysitters with great training so you can treat yourself more often! Children must be potty-trained. The first Parents’ Night Out is Friday, June 23 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Chisholm Park, 324 Hunt Street. Cost is $10/child, $5/additional sibling. Pre-registration required, not drops-ins accepted. Future dates are July 21 and August 4. Call or come by the Aquatic Center to register. Payment must be received at time of registration. CAKES & COCKTAILS! Come learn the basics of cake decorating using candy melts with a lively, informed and fun instructor, Christian Samora, Thursday, June 29 from 6-8pm, Salida Steamplant, $30/person (includes all supplies and your first wine, beer, cocktail or soft drink). Ages 21 and over only. Call or come by the aquatic center to register. Payment must be received at time of registration. No drop-ins accepted.

ROCK CLIMBING FIELD TRIP WITH RMOC! Hang with Salida Recreation and RMOC guides for this day of scaling the cliffs at Falls Gulch. Tucked along the river in Bighorn sheep canyon, this crag is great for diverse groups. Half of the climbs are short and easy for beginners. The other half are longer and more difficult which gives you plenty of time on the rock. This trip is suitable for all ability levels, from beginner to advanced. Equipment and transportation provided-please specify shoe size when registering. Bring your own lunch, water, sunscreen and layered clothing. It can be very hot in the canyon at Falls Gulch-be prepared!
When: Wed, June 21, 9am-4pm, drop-off & pick-up at Aquatic Center, $60/person, ages 7+, all skill levels. Call or come by the aquatic center to register. Payment must be received at time of registration. No drop-ins accepted.

RIVER AWARENESS CLINIC WITH RMOC! We are so lucky to have the Arkansas River flowing through our backyards and for all the activities that are centered around it - rafting, fishing, paddle boarding, tubing and swimming. As fun as it can be, we also want to be aware of how dangerous it can be. This clinic is designed to introduce young adults to basic concepts of river safety and awareness. There will be an emphasis on essential equipment and how to use it. Participants will also practice swimming in the current. Respect the River! (cost covers all transportation and equipment; bring own lunch, sunscreen, fleece or wool long-sleeves, and dry clothing). Thursday, June 22 from 12:30-4pm, FIBArk building/Coors Boat Ramp, $30/person, ages 12-18. Call or come by the aquatic center to register. Payment must be received at time of registration. No drop-ins accepted.
