Lip Sync Contest to Benefit Friends of the SteamPlant
The pop culture phenomenon of lip sync battling is coming to Salida thanks to the wildly popular lip sync segments on “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon” and the new TV series on Spike TV’s “Lip Sync Battle”.
On Friday, July 14 at 7:00 p.m., the competition will begin at the SteamPlant Event Center. “The great thing about a lip sync is that you don’t actually need any real talent, just a desire to perform and have fun,” states Beatrice Price, board member of the Friends of the SteamPlant. “Performers can be anyone!”
This is how it works: participants mime the vocals of popular music while performing onstage in front of an appreciative audience. The fun comes from seeing just how wild people are willing to go to impress the crowd or win a prize. All ages are welcome but songs cannot contain any profanity.
First place prize is $200 cash; second place $100 and third place $50. Immediately following the lip sync battle will be a DJ dance party. The price to enter the lip sync battle is $5/person and audience members’ entry fee is $10/person to watch. Doors open at 6:30 p.m.
All entrants need to e-mail their songs to [email protected] no later than Thursday, July 13th to receive performance information.
Generous sponsors include First Colorado Land Office, Heart of the Rockies Radio, Salida Dermatology, Soul Craft Brewery, Su Casa Furniture and Sleep Shop, State Farm Insurance Liz Petersen, Brad’s Automotive, Lisa and Sterling Stoudenmire and Mount Princeton Hot Springs Resort.
