Upcoming Salida Recreation Events and Classes for January 2018

JANUARY IS AUTO SHOP EMPLOYEE AND OWNER MONTH! All auto shop employees and owners can bring in a current paystub or other proof of employment and swim FREE in the public pools all month long. We appreciate you keeping us safe on the road!
2018 FITNESS CHALLENGE PROGRAMS! NOW is a great time to engage in healthy, fun activities that support an active lifestyle. Salida Recreation has some exciting, motivating, and fun ideas for the 7th Annual Fitness Challenge. Our goal is to offer you education and guidance towards setting and achieving goals and feeling healthy! By participating in the many aspects of the Fitness Challenge, you will receive structure and information encompassing health, fitness, and nutrition to help you make changes that will last beyond the New Year. We have two FREE classes for you to take advantage of in January. A FREE Water Fitness Sampler class taking place at the Aquatics Center Saturday, Jan. 13 from 9-10:45 am. This is a great chance to learn a little more about what classes we offer here at the pool, to meet our instructors, and to try something new at the start of the year! For ages 16 and older. Instructors: Terry Bolte, Nancy Powers & Mary Baranczyk. Also a FREE Tai Chi Sampler class with Jon Fritz of HRRMC will take place at the Salida Steamplant, Friday, Feb. 2, 9-9:45am, drop-in class. For ages 18 and older. This class will incorporate gentle movements to increase strength, balance, and relaxation.

CAMP FRIDAY: FITNESS GAMES, NATURE WALKS, MUSIC & ARTS EXPLORATION! Salida Recreation is partnering with GARNA, Guidestone, Box of Bubbles, The Maverick Potter, KHEN, Season’s Café and Joe Lobeck to encourage kids in scientific, musical, natural, artistic and physical exploration. Morning snack provided, please bring lunch, water, and appropriate layers for outside play. Ages 5-8, Fridays, Jan. 12-March 9, 9am-2pm, cost $5/person/day. These programs are sponsored by High Country Bank. Preregistration is required. No drop-ins accepted. All registrations and liability waivers must be completed at the Aquatics Center. ART & IMAGINATION FRIDAYS! Salida Recreation and Salida Creativity Lab present Art & Imagination Fridays. Explore your imagination as you paint, draw, assemble, and create with Salida Creativity Lab on Fridays this winter. Come dressed for painting and creativity in this fun mixed media class. Sign up for all five Fridays or just the ones that fit your schedule. Fridays, Jan. 12 through Feb. 9, 9am-12pm, ages 7-10, $10 per class. Classes take place at Chisholm Park. Scholarships available. Please call or come by the aquatic center to register. Payment must be received at time of registration. No drop-ins accepted.

CIRCUS SKILLS CLASSES! Join Salida Recreation and Salida Circus: Circus Skills Aerial, Acrobatics and Equilibristic classes for youth ages 4 and up. Three 4-week sessions offered: Fridays, Jan. 19-Feb. 9; Feb. 16-March 9 and April 6-April 27; 2pm, ages 4-7 or 3pm, ages 8+, $50. Both time slots, all sessions 45 minutes, $50, minimum of 8, maximum of 15 students. Salida Circus tutors Jennifer Dempsey, Heather Haggerty and Joan Lobeck will be leading Circus Skills classes including Tumbling, Acrobatic balancing, Aerial and Equilibiristics (juggling, etc). Participants will use aerial fabric, static trapeze and lyra. Skills taught include traditional and Russian climb, foot locks, hip keys on silks; Single/double moves on trapeze and lyra. All classes are suitable for beginners and those with experience. Please register by calling or in person at the Aquatic Center. May sign up for all sessions together. Payment must be received at time of registration. No drop-ins accepted. Scholarships available. All classes take place at Salida Middle School Gymnasium, 520 Milford.

LEARN TO SWIM GROUP SWIM LESSONS! Preschool (ages 4 & 5) through Level 4 (ages 6+), Tuesdays & Wednesdays, Jan. 9-31, 5:30-6:15pm, 45 minutes, 8 lessons per session. Register by the Friday before the session begins: $50/session. Any registrations after that will be charged an additional $5. Scholarships available. Please call or come by the aquatic center to register. Payment must be received at time of registration. No drop-ins accepted.

JANUARY TRAVELOGUE! Join Salida Recreation at the Salida Steamplant, Wednesday, Jan. 10 from 7-8:30pm, doors open at 6:30 p.m. Cost is $5/person and a cash bar is available with beer, wine and soft drinks. The Salida Recreation Travelogue series is a great way to see others' recreation related vacations and adventures without ever having to leave Salida. It is also a great way for those that do the traveling to share their experiences with their community. This travelogue features John and Donna Rhoads and as they present a stunning slide show and share stories on their recent trip to Ecuador and the Galapagos Islands.

KAYAK ROLL SESSIONS BEGIN! A dedicated time just for you and your boat to practice your roll in the calm, warm waters of the pool, Tuesdays, 7-9pm beginning Jan. 16, cost $8, (through April 24*). Volunteer instructors from RMOC are often available to give tips and advice. Bring your own gear; helmets and PFD’s must be worn at all times. Ages 10+ (children under 10 cannot be in the water), 20 boats max allowed in the pool at one time. No punch passes or membership add-ons accepted. No classes March 13, 20, 27. No preregistration required.

JIVE AND DIVE FOR JANUARY! Friday, Jan. 19 from 7-9pm, middle schoolers ONLY pool party. Drop-in, $5.
