Planned Parenthood and Public Health Offer HPV Vaccine Clinic September 1st
Human Papilloma Virus (HPV) is the virus that causes many prevalent cancers, including throat and mouth, genital, and cervical cancer. The virus is extremely common; up to 70% of people will contract it at some point in their life. Most strains of the virus will clear the body on their own and show no symptoms – but some strains will cause cancer if left untreated.
A vaccine to protect against the most dangerous strains of HPV exists, but vaccination rates in Chaffee County are very low. Less than 10% of young people in Chaffee County have received the vaccine – well below the state and national averages.
The Centers for Disease Control and American Cancer Society both recommend that all children – boys and girls - ages 11-12 get the vaccine. Additionally, for older teens or young adults that have not been vaccinated, the vaccine is considered effective up until age 26.
On September 1st from 1 PM – 7 PM, Planned Parenthood in Salida and Chaffee County Public Health will be offering a clinic to provide the vaccine to everyone age 9-26. Patients should call Chaffee County Public Health at 719-539-4510 to make an appointment. Most insurance, including Medicaid, will be accepted.

While I am a strong supporter of Planned Parenthood, I do not support the HPV Vaccine.
Like generations proceeding, most women with HPV will not contract Cervical Cancer. Gardasil was fast-tracked through the system meant to safeguard our health and well being. It was approved and rushed to market (like many pharmaceutical drugs with horrific side effects) despite questionable results in regards to safety.
No independent studies have been done to determine if the vaccine itself causes cancer or what the long-term effects might be on those vaccinated.
As should have been expected, a shocking number of girls have had adverse reactions to receiving the HPV vaccination.
Educating are children is the best possible prevention for STDs.
