Come watch the two Ark Valley High Roller home teams scrimmage as the Banana Belt-Herz take on the Hurt of the Rockies! It was a CLOSE match last time and came down to the last couple of jams!

Talking with 2011 FIBArk Parade VIP, writer Beth Groundwater. Author of Deadly Currents.

Deadly Currents is a new outdoor adventure mystery that takes place in Salida, the Arkansas River and the local river culture. In the book, the heroine is a raft guide who leaves her job as a guide to become a river ranger with the Arkansas Headwaters Recreation Area (AHRA). While on duty, a river client dies under mysterious circumstances and the heroine tries to solve the crime.

Stage 1 fire restrictions begin today

Chaffee County Undersheriff John Spezze announced today, Thursday, June 9th, that the fire danger rating for all private lands in the county has been raised to high and has declared a no burn day restriction starting today and until further notice.


High Rollers beat Greeley team

The Ark Valley High Rollers played in Greeley this past weekend and walked away with 166 to 81 win over the June’s Cleavers, one of the Slaughterhouse Derby Girls B teams.  This was by far their best skating to date and brings the High Rollers to a 3-1 record this season.

The next time you can catch the High Rollers in action at home is Thursday, June 23rd at the Chaffee County Fairgrounds.  Doors are at 6pm and the event begins [...]


Denver & Rio Grande Western Hospital Rehabilitation Nears Completion

The Denver & Rio Grande Western Hospital is the last surviving structure in Salida that was constructed by the railroad. The structure at 448 E. First Street now makes up the eastern end of the Touber Building and houses City Hall.

The City received grant funding in 2010 from the Colorado Historical Society’s State Historic Fund to be used for exterior rehabilitation of the original building first constructed in 1900. The project is now approaching completion.

Chaffee County Sheriff Pete Palmer announced today that the fire danger rating for all private lands in the county has been raised to HIGH and has further declared today a no-burn day. No open fires are allowed, including all exempted fires.
