Explore the Golden Towers

The Greater Arkansas River Nature Association is sponsoring a geology hike on Saturday, April 5 from 8:30 a.m. until 2:30 p.m. Bob Hickey will lead the group on a journey to explore multiple geological formations in a section of the Arkansas Hills and along Dead Horse Gulch.

Symphonic Salida Concert

Thursday, March 20th, KHEN 106.9 FM and Symphonic  Salida! presents the Colorado Symphony’s Woodwind Quintet playing classical and contemporary works. Tickets are $20.00 in advance and $25.00 at the door.

Volunteers Needed for Run Through Time

The event, held on March 15, 2014 in Salida promises to be a sellout, with 400 competitors (marathon and half marathon). The course follows dirt/jeep roads and narrow, hilly single-track between 7,000-9,000 feet in and around the Arkansas Hills Trail System.

Crest Academy To Host TEDx Talk

Crest Academy is presenting, “Ordinary People, Extraordinary Ideas” a TEDx Youth Event May 15th at the Steamplant beginning at 5:30pm and concluding at 8:30pm.

Celebrate Mardi Gras at the Vic

The Victoria Tavern will be hosting a Mardi Gras celebration on Tuesday, March 4th. We have the Groove Farmers playing your favorite tunes at 8 o’clock. We will have Mardi Gras inspired drink specials. Tons of beads, and lots of throws. Costumes are encouraged.

Adventure Movie Night

Some of the best adventure films in the world will be shown in Salida on Thursday, January 16 at 6:30pm in the Salida High School Auditorium. These films are selections from the famous Telluride Mountainfilm Festival.

Dine Out for Healthy Meals 4 Kids Today through Sunday

With close to half of the children in Chaffee County on free and reduced lunches and over 4,000 lunches served through the summer food program this summer, Amica’s and LiveWell Chaffee County are partnering with local restaurants and coffee shops to raise the funds needed to cover the addition of Friday lunches and assist with the Mountain Lion backpack program in Salida.

Dine Out to Support Friday Meals and Backpack Program for Students October 24-27th

The Healthy Meals for Kids (HM4K) Chaffee County Program will help ensure that all children in Chaffee County have access to healthy meals when school is not in session.

Amica’s, the Salida Boys & Girls Club and LiveWell Chaffee County have partnered over the past two years to provide healthy meals to Chaffee County children over the summer, and they anticipate reaching over 10,000 meals served by the end of next summer.

Dine Out Event for Healthy Meals 4 Kids Announces Supporting Restaurants

Restaurants that are donating a portion of their sales to the Healthy Meals 4 Kids Program during this “dine out” event October 24-27th include Amica’s, The Fritz, Benson’s and Rivers Edge. In addition, Moonlight Pizza’s Moonlight Monday on Monday, October 28th will benefit HM4K. Salida area coffee shops and bakeries are also showing their support by having donation jars where you can donate your change to a worthy cause. You can donate at Sacred Ground Coffee, Rise and Shine Bakery and Café Dawn who will also donate a portion of their sales on Thursday, October 24th.

Join GARNA and local astronomer Jim Konowitz on Thursday, September 5 from 7:30 until 9:30 p.m. to view a variety of deep sky objects. Viewing will take place at a private residence in Mesa Antero (near Nathrop). High School Students Invited to 4-day Youth Stewardship Summit

High school students from around the state are invited to participate in a 4-day Youth Stewardship Summit at the Pickle Gulch Campground near Black Hawk, August 1-4. Transportation will be provided from meeting places including Salida. The outdoor Summit is hosted by Volunteers for Outdoor Colorado (VOC), a statewide nonprofit that engages thousands of youth each year in outdoor volunteerism and leadership.
