The City of Salida today filed suit in District Court to gain unobstructed access to the Unique Theater to perform the long awaited stabilization of the building.

The cold weather has increased our calls regarding both frozen meters and pipes. It is important that as the temperatures drop below zero that if you have had a history of freeze ups or are going to be absent from your home for extended periods of time that you plan for these cold spells.

The City has begun a project to re-write the Salida Municipal Code. The primary goals of this project are two-fold – increase the relevance of the code by removing obsolete regulations and improve the city’s operating efficiency.

The Salida Police Department and the Colorado Bureau of Investigation (CBI) have concluded their investigation of two Salida officers concerning allegations of using excessive force and failure to report. The original report date was December 2, 2010.

The citizens of Salida have much to celebrate this holiday season. Despite the sluggish economy the City has continued to provide a high level of basic services and to complete a number of exciting projects and improvements around the City in 2010. City staff would like to take a few moments to list some of these projects and remind citizens that this community is still moving forward in a positive direction.

Earlier this year, we expected a shortfall for 2010. Budget work sessions for 2011 led off with similar concerns. Recently, we discussed how much reserves will increase and future resources will be freed up after final a debt payment next year.

The City of Salida has entered into a construction agreement with Diesslin Structures, Inc. (“DSI”) for stabilization of the Unique Theater. Work is expected to begin as early as December 7, 2010 and will last approximately 4 weeks.
