As a way to help pay for the music lineup at New Belgium FIBArk 2012 volunteer organizers host the annual FIBArk Cruiser Crit. This year it starts with registration at 3 p.m. May 19th at Riverside Park in Salida, Colorado. The event is essentially a rolling-costume contest on classic cruiser bikes. It features parade laps, kid races and a criterium-style race on a course established in downtown Salida and Riverside Park. The Fritz will host an after party featuring live music by At the Water Tower and a silent auction.

For the second year in a row Salida will host a tour stop on the Mountain States Cup series. Volunteers are needed. Volunteering is a great way to see the action close up while getting some exercise.

Today, the Colorado Senate gaveled in a 2012 special session called by Governor John Hickenlooper. The Governor called for the special session on Thursday, citing the fact that there were a number of legislative issues on which the Colorado House of Representatives failed to act last week.

I would like to congratulate Heart of the Rockies Regional Medical Center for their well publicized and open hospital board election. The quality of the candidates is one of the positive results of such an open process. Charlie Forester and Marilyn Bouldin will be great board members largely due to the different perspectives and experiences they will bring to their duties.

In recent months, the City has reviewed all of the Salida City Codes and has done a major clean- up of the Code book. Most of the codes were updated and, in some cases, modified. This project was much needed.
