Our school is working to pass an ordinance that would place a 5-10 cent fee on plastic bags in Salida stores. Consumers would have the choice to bring their own reusable bags (for free of course!) or pay a fee for each plastic or paper bag used.

We have had some inquiries about commercial and home recycling services in the valley. Please tell us, and your neighbors what you know. Our goal is to gather general information and an inventory of costs, options and a rundown of what happens to the waste once it leaves our sight. The latter is important as we have had inquiries recently that make it clear most folks don’t know where our valley’s recycling ends up. Please help contribute to The Citizen’s knowledge base. Thanks!

Today Apple unveiled iBooks 2, a “new textbook experience” for the iPad. This represents the company’s attempt to bury traditional schoolbooks and change the landscape forever. Fortunately, because we passed the BEST grant, we have the ability to be at the leading edge as the old textbook quickly dies.
