The San Luis Valley has long been known for its world-class scenic values. A little known proposal to build two 656-foot tall solar thermal tower powers could intrude on the Valley’s wide open vistas.

The City of Salida will present the Draft Centennial Park Master Plan during an open house to be held at 5:30 p.m. January 26 in the SteamPlant Annex; 220 W. Sackett. Public comment will be accepted following the presentation.

On Jan 29 and 30, Daniel Majok Gai, from Project Education Sudan will give several presentations about the current state of the new Sudan at local schools in Salida as well as the Salida community center. Gai was six years old when he escaped attacks on his village and began the 1,000 mile trek to refugee camps in Ethiopia and Kenya.

Audrey Gilpin has been selected to serve as the new Deputy City Clerk for the City of Salida, Interim City Administrator Dara MacDonald announced Friday. Starting with the City in November 2011, Gilpin has served as the administrative assistant as well as acting deputy city clerk. Previously, Gilpin was a reporter for The Mountain Mail.
