As Earth Day approaches on Sunday, April 22, Governor John Hickenlooper today signed into law the bipartisan Electronic Recycling Jobs Act. Senate Bill 133, sponsored by Senator Gail Schwartz (D-Snowmass) and Representative Don Coram (R-Montrose), will protect groundwater and create an estimated 2,500 recycling jobs by ensuring that used electronics are recycled rather than dumped in landfills.

Nate Porter, owner of Salida Mountain Sports has announced his local sponsorship of Sam Bricker as part of an expedition to Mt. Everest in the Khumbu region of Nepal. While Sam will not be summiting Everest, he will be climbing lower peaks and an integral part of the basecamp operations and expedition primarily sponsored by Outdoor Research- Seattle, WA. Sam, a local Salida resident and filmmaker, will trek to Everest Basecamp, film, edit and upload via satellite uplink, dispatches from the foot of Everest.

Water restrictions for the 2012 irrigation season will again be on a voluntary basis. Citizens are encouraged to follow the same restrictions that had been in place in past years, which includes even/odd day watering and no watering between 10:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. Should you choose not to follow voluntary water restrictions, there will be no enforcement or penalty.
