What Happened To Summer?

It comes as a shock to realize that in a few short weeks, the mountainsides will be swathed with orange and gold. A subtle shift will have taken place in the tilt of the earth and in the tint of blue in the sky, and we will suddenly realize that summer, once again, has snuck by while we were busy making plans about how to spend it.

Paddlefest makes a splash with Club Kids!

We sat down last week with three of the Boys & Girls Club members who were chosen by the Club’s staff to participate in the special advance rafting adventure on May 17th. Mya Baldwin, 12 and Kyle Feighner, 10, took a few minutes to share their excitement about the upcoming trip.

Make a Splash

Each year, Longfellow Elementary School brings their physical education classes to the Salida Hot Springs Aquatic Center for swim lessons during the month of April. During this time the pool will be more crowded than usual, so staff at the pool urge users to please plan their visits accordingly.

That Floating Feeling

The urge could be ignored no longer. The lengthening days, the return of bird song, the first of the year’s weeds greening and pushing through the still brown, dormant lawn. It was time to consign winter to the dustbin and admit that spring is in the air.

Ride the Rockies course announced

Starting in the shadows of Boulder’s Flatirons, cyclists will visit the iconic ski towns of Winter Park, Steamboat Springs, Avon and Breckenridge before finishing under the historic arch in downtown Golden

Public Ice Skating

Chaffee Ice Coaltion has opened the skating rink at Centennial Park for the season.  This schedule is through January and is subject to change based on ice conditions and weather. Free Public Skating (donations accepted) Friday Mornings 9-11am and Saturday nights 7-8:30pm.

All ages and abilities open hockey Wednesday nights after league play (about 9pm) – 10pm and Saturday nights 8:30-10pm. Scheduled league play is Monday through Thursday at 7:30pm. Fridays and Sundays are open for make up dates and special events.  Questions can be [...]

Fitness Challenge underway!

The Salida Recreation 2014 Fitness Challenge is underway on January 1st! The 2 months of free classes, programming and competition kicks off with the New Years Day 5K at 10am at the Scout Hut.

Running Club to host open house for H.S. track Saturday

The Chaffee County Running Club will host a free open house event at the new Salida High School Track and Turf Field this Saturday from 9-10 a.m.

Everyone is invited to come out to learn more about when and how the public can use this great community asset, to walk/run a few laps on the track or play on the artificial turf field, and to celebrate public access to this facility. Light refreshments will be available.
