It comes as a shock to realize that in a few short weeks, the mountainsides will be swathed with orange and gold. A subtle shift will have taken place in the tilt of the earth and in the tint of blue in the sky, and we will suddenly realize that summer, once again, has snuck by while we were busy making plans about how to spend it.

Each year, Longfellow Elementary School brings their physical education classes to the Salida Hot Springs Aquatic Center for swim lessons during the month of April. During this time the pool will be more crowded than usual, so staff at the pool urge users to please plan their visits accordingly.

The City of Salida Recreation Department has scheduled field trips for the Monte Vista Crane Festival and the ice rink in Gunnison.
The event, held on March 15, 2014 in Salida, is in its ninth year and promises to be a sellout, with 200 competitors each in the marathon and half marathon.
The talk will take place in the SteamPlant Annex from 7:00 – 8:30 pm and costs $5 per person.

Chaffee Ice Coaltion has opened the skating rink at Centennial Park for the season. This schedule is through January and is subject to change based on ice conditions and weather. Free Public Skating (donations accepted) Friday Mornings 9-11am and Saturday nights 7-8:30pm.

The CIC has been active skating every weekend since the last week of October on Chalk Lake and Frantz Lake. We’ve been flooding the tennis courts in preparation for another year of public skating, public ice hockey, and an ice hockey league.
Founded in 1955 by skiing pioneer Ernie Blake and run by his children and grandchildren ever since, the family announced on Wednesday it is selling the steep and soulful New Mexico ski area to billionaire conservationist Louis Bacon.
The Chaffee County Running Club will host a free open house event at the new Salida High School Track and Turf Field this Saturday from 9-10 a.m.
Everyone is invited to come out to learn more about when and how the public can use this great community asset, to walk/run a few laps on the track or play on the artificial turf field, and to celebrate public access to this facility. Light refreshments will be available.
