Editorial Standards

Salida Citizen Editorial Standards

The goal of Salida Citizen is to provide the opportunity for direct and responsible reporting on a wide range of issues relevant to Salida and the Arkansas Valley, and to stimulate participation and discussion within the community.

To enhance content, Salida Citizen also provides links that readers can use to seek background information, to access documents referred to in an article, and to explore any issues that an author might not have fully addressed.

Salida Citizen seeks to interact with the public by providing an outlet for public feedback. Feedback published by Salida Citizen is labeled as such, and standards for publication (such as those relating to obscenity or personal attacks) apply to feedback and forum posts.

To ensure that standards are maintained and that we can earn and retain the public’s trust, contributing writers must adhere to the editorial standards outlined below.

Editorial Policy of The Salida Citizen:

  • We will maintain editorial independence from government, commercial entities and special interests.
  • We will not engage in public relations, marketing or lobbying.
  • Plagiarism will not be condoned.
  • We will refrain from publishing favorable content in exchange for money, gifts, or favors.
  • We will do our best to disclose any conflicts of interest.
  • We will encourage and foster accuracy and honestly on all issues.
  • We will clearly differentiate paid placements (advertisements) from editorial content.
  • We will not accept articles or editorial content that contain profanity or obscenity.

To Summarize …
A favorite bumper sticker of ours reads “Just be nice.” To that end, be honest. Be polite. Do not submit anything that you wouldn’t feel comfortable saying to a person. Remember, there are real people on the other side of the screen.
