This month we will be changing things up. We are going higher to cool off a bit. We are working with one of our partners – The U.S. Forest Service – on some trail-work they need to complete up Starvation Creek.

Joseph and Arlene Cogan, whose family has been ranching in Chaffee County since 1889, have agreed to open their 507-acre ranch to public hunting as part of a perpetual conservation easement.

A County advisory board is creating a plan to document and preserve Chaffee County’s historic and cultural treasures. The plan will set priorities and highlight preservation activities like restoring historic buildings, supporting ranchland production and creating interpretive signs for visitors.

The Salida City Council recently heard the details of BBI International’s community sustainability program which encourages municipalities to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and promote energy self-reliance and local economic development.
