My family and group of friends gather each year to celebrate the Thanksgiving holiday weekend together. This year was no different though it was our first stay in Salida. As a group, we were hiking up Ute Pass Trail on CR 176 Thursday morning.

When gratitude is regularly practiced, one can be thankful even in the most difficult situations.
Last week we had Friday Enrichment’s first “holistic” provider meeting. I sat around the table with 13 providers who give their hearts, souls, and an abundance of energy to this community, and for that, I am thankful! We discussed what is working for Friday Enrichment, and what is not working.
I am very excited to share with Salida the experience of my painted trees. These trees made their debut back in 2005 on Tenderfoot Mountain, during which time I denied any involvement, yet enjoyed the anonymity of creating these pieces I also took pleasure in seeing folks finding their own delight and personal ownership with them.
So, flash forward to 2011, I was privileged to bring a painted tree with a whole crew of Salida folks to the Burning Man [...]
Sandy Farrell hosts a great program every Friday at 1:00 p.m. on KHEN called “Salida Inside Out.” Today (Friday, Oct. 31), Chuck Rose and Keith Baker were guests.
Let me guess: much of it was already prepared in factory kitchens hundreds of miles away and the main ingredients were corn or soy products (or both). Am I right? According to the USDA, 93% of corn, 94% of soybeans and 95% of cotton contain patented genetically engineered genes as well as 95% of sugar beets and canola according to industry reports. In addition, varieties of genetically engineered papayas, zucchini, yellow crookneck squash, alfalfa and sweet corn have been approved [...]
The only ones who gain in this effort are the City of Salida who will garner huge tap fees per unit and the developers who were able to get the land cheap. It does not help those who seek affordable housing.
How can voters support or trust an individual who clearly does not understand nor comply with basic campaign laws to be our Clerk and Recorder?
I would like to request that each member of the Salida City Council publicly describe how they would deal with the financial ramifications should the proposed 2A initiative be passed.
Thank you Salida Citizens for making this Forum an excellent success. There were approximately 125 friends and neighbors who attended. Every chair at the Community Building was filled and a few had to stand.
The county coroner election should have everyone’s attention. For the first time since 1994, we have two candidates on the ballot.
Lori is running because she knows all of us in Chaffee County need a qualified County Clerk – a committed public servant who will maintain the integrity and efficiency of the office.
Obamacare was promoted as providing health care insurance for the “uninsurable”. … Now, under Obamacare, we pay EVEN higher premiums for even higher deductibles.
Lori Mitchell is the most qualified candidate for Chaffee County Clerk and Recorder, so I am
voting for her.
On September 12th, the body of Ed Bartheld was found by his neighbors in the crawlspace of his home. It appeared that Ed had shot himself. He lived alone at the end of a road in the Ghost town of Turret Colorado. He was 92 years old. Fate placed me in the middle of this story, and I feel the need to tell it from my point of view. In my opinion, the media has covered it poorly. It’s complicated, but let me try to explain.
This letter is to express my appreciation for the work of our county coroner, Randy Amettis, for the cooperative relationship he has established with the sheriff’s office during the course of the past twelve years and to urge my fellow citizens to return him to office this November.
I want to go on record as endorsing Lori Mitchell for the office of Chaffee County Clerk.
As a sports professional Mitchell demonstrated her ability to persevere. As an entrepreneur, Mitchell gained the experience necessary to manage people, provide customers with excellent service, and control expenses.
How I can I write this while sitting down? While not crying? While being indoors instead of outdoors in the sun, or on the road I love like my friend and colleague Mark “EyeBall” Kneeskern, “The Last American HitchHiker” as he was known… and known by so many names and aspects?
I am writing to encourage everyone’s support for Lori Mitchell who is running for Chaffee County Clerk. I have known Lori for over 40 years. She and I went to high school and college together.
