Classes needed for SalidaRec fitness challenge

The Salida Recreation Department is now actively looking for programs, classes and seminars for our 2015 Fitness Challenge. Programs for adults, teens, or kids are all welcome and encouraged! We are also looking for prizes to offer to the participants with the most points earned during the challenge.

As in past years, we will run this challenge in January and February with the intention of supporting and encouraging Chaffee County residents in their pursuit of health and fitness goals.

During the challenge, participants will have access to structured free or low cost classes and seminars. This information, encompassing health, fitness and nutrition over 9 weeks, is intended to help them make changes that will last throughout the year and beyond.

Ideally all programs in the Fitness Challenge are either free or low cost. Some of you may have on-going or one time programs that are already free during this time period. Some providers who usually charge for their classes will offer one free class during the Fitness Challenge.

The Salida Rec Department then compiles a list of all the various offerings during the Fitness Challenge in a calendar on our website and markets these activities throughout January and February. Participants have the opportunity to log points in their fitness logs by attending these classes and win prizes at the end of the challenge.

Our department does not charge anything for participating in the challenge, and does not collect any revenue beyond the classes or programs we offer during the challenge. Our goal is to support Salida residents in their health and fitness goals.

Examples of classes or programs in last year’s Fitness Challenge include: free indoor cycling group; free yoga class; free fitness sampler dance class; free swim day and free no-drop trail run.

Please email Kristy at [email protected] if you would like to offer a class, program or seminar during the 2015 Fitness Challenge, or if you would like to donate a prize to participants. If your organization is also working on some type of health or wellness challenge during this time period, we welcome your involvement and would love to work with you to market all potential opportunities for participants.
