This summer has been a time of grievance, too many dear friends of our community are no longer with us. It has been a road of both pain and strength. These characters touched our lives and shared their gifts. We feel we have the responsibility to respond to these connections and to celebrate their lives by embracing the things that inspired us.
We would like to honor a vision that is of epic proportions by launching a project that needs your support and contributions. We are hosting a community gathering to show our support for the arts and each other. This event will be in conjunction between artists within our community and beyond.
On Thursday, December 11, from 6:30 to 9:30 pm, a Fundraiser is taking place at Cafe Dawn here on 1st and G streets in Salida. If you have seen the article in the Mountain Mail last friday, this effort is in response to a project whose time has come. Mariah Sutherland and James Brown are transforming a shuttle bus from transport to roving Gallery/Studio/Artcar. The project needs your contributions, and our fundraiser is both the catalyst to that effort, and a celebration of our dear friend Mark Eyeball Kneeskern, whose passing we wish to commemorate.
The evening will host a Moth Hour (true stories told in person) , live acoustic music (please bring instruments and join), a coloring contest (design inspirations) and a pot-luck dinner (your entree is your entry). ANY contribution will earn you a tin scale, affixed to the shuttle with your name engraved on it for time and all eternity.
Please join us on thursday for an event that honors the artist in all of us, celebrates the lives of our friends who have passed, and kicks off a project that will change the way we see art.
