Summer Community Engagement Opportunities with Guidestone Colorado

Summer is upon us, and Guidestone has many opportunities to get involved on the farm or ranch, including volunteer opportunities and an adult education series at the Community & School Farm, as well as open hours, guided tours, and Friday programs at the Hutchinson Homestead & Learning Center. Come celebrate the summer season with us!

Hutchinson Homestead Tours and Open Hours are back! Stop by this unique 150-year-old historic homestead for a visit, and stay for a guided tour. We look forward to sharing the Hutchinson Homestead's interpretive displays, historic buildings and ranch history. Through early August, Open Hours are Monday through Thursday from 4:00 to 5:30 pm, Friday from 12:00 to 4:00 pm, and Saturday from 1:00 to 4:00 pm. Guided Tours are at 4:00 pm, Monday through Thursday, and at 2:00 pm on Friday and Saturday. Group tours can also be scheduled by appointment. The Hutchinson Homestead & Learning Center is located at 8913 W. Hwy 50, between Salida and Poncha Springs.

The Hutchinson Homestead & Learning Center will also open on Friday mornings, from 10:30 to 12 pm, for Alive on Fridays! Each week has a different theme and includes activity stations, games, and fun for families with kids of all ages. Now through August 3rd. The cost is $10 per family.

For those interested in summer volunteer opportunities, we invite you to get involved at the Community & School Farm while supporting Guidestone's Farm to School Initiative, by participating in Friday Volunteer Work Days. Are you interested in planting, weeding, harvesting, and more? Please join us at 1455 Holman Ave in Salida (next to the dog park) on Fridays from 8:00 to 10:00 am, through October 5th. Bring work gloves, gardening tools, water bottle, sunscreen, and passion. All are welcome! No experience is necessary.

The Community & School Farm is also hosting a High Altitude Gardening Adult Education Series on Wednesdays, now through August 1st, from 4:30 to 6:00 pm. The series will feature guest speakers covering a range of topics relevant to our climate and growing season. Each session will include instruction on the week's topic followed by hands-on time assisting with projects at the farm. We will discuss USDA Hardiness Zones (June 13th), Crop Selection (June 20th), Season Extension Techniques (June 27th), Watering & Irrigation Systems (July 11th), Pollinators (July 18th), Permaculture Techniques (July 25th), and Harvesting (August 1st). Registration is not required. Meet at the Community & School Farm, located at 1455 Holman Ave (next to the dog park).
