The Health Equity Advocacy Summit Series is a four-month series of interactive training, discussions and presentations with national and Colorado-based leaders beginning on Aug. 11. The summits will provide opportunities for you to engage with other community members to advance policy, change the narrative and promote healing towards action. The speakers and topics in this series are being overseen by the members of the Health Equity Advocacy (HEA) Cohort. In this series, presenters will:
Examine modern-day racism;
Share the latest updates on statewide policy wins and continuing challenges; and
Discuss a new narrative to heal and move towards action.

Dr. Eddie Moore, Jr.: “America is Changing. Are You Ready?”
Dr. Moore founded The Privilege Institute, which engages people in research, education, action and leadership through workshops, conferences, publications and collaborative partnerships and relationships. This session challenges participants to examine their own biases, behaviors and belief systems. Additionally, they will learn how to take action against hatred, bigotry, privilege and oppression. john a. powell: “Building Communities of Belonging in the Face of Othering”
As director of the Othering & Belonging Institute at UC Berkeley, john a. powell brings together stakeholders to identify and eliminate the barriers to an inclusive, just and sustainable society in order to create transformative change. This session will dive into the conversation of his most recent book, Racing to Justice: Transforming our Conceptions of Self and Other to Build an Inclusive Society. Register here for this event.

Akaya Windwood: “Exploring the State of the Possible”
Akaya is internationally recognized for elevating the effectiveness of leadership and collaboration in the nonprofit and social benefit sectors. Her vision for our global community includes infusing a sense of purpose, delight and wonder into everything we do. Colorado Legislative Panel: Leading in Extraordinary Times
A panel of state legislators will discuss the work that happened during the 2020 legislative session to improve health equity in the state and contribute to an equitable recovery from the health and economic consequences of the COVID-19 pandemic. The legislator panel will be followed by a panel of local policy advocates and organizers who will talk about what the work looks like moving forward. Register here for this event.

Young Leaders Rising: A Conversation with Amanda Gorman
Amanda Gorman is founder and executive director of One Pen One Page, which promotes literacy through free creative writing programming for underserved youth. Amanda made history in 2017 by being named the first-ever National Youth Poet Laureate in the United States. Amanda uses pen and paper to give voice to social change. In this session, Amanda will share her journey, work and vision for reforming systemic racism, and using the power of language to start social movements, energize revolutions and bring about widespread change.
