Save South Park Group Hosting Fundraiser in Breckenridge Saturday, Feb. 17
Save Park County, a citizen group fighting mining expansion off Colo. Hwy. 9 in Fairplay is hosting a fundraiser Saturday, Feb. 17 in Breckenridge.
The group says Park County Commissioners ignored its own planning commission and concerned citizens when it approved a large expansion of gold mining operations into a 28-acre area zoned residential and already dotted with homes. High Speed Mining has a large mine pit operation underway, aided by sponsorship money from the Discovery Channel’s “Gold Rush” reality TV show filming episodes at the site.
Opponents cite the potential for long-term environmental harm and the change to the town’s character. Park County is designated a Natural Heritage Site
