Central Colorado Humanists Sunday Science September 7
Central Colorado Humanists Sunday Science Press Release for September 7:
“History, Current Status, and Future of Global Navigation Space Systems (GPS)” is the topic of the Central Colorado Humanists Sunday Science program for September 7. In addition to the title topics, Bill Sample will talk about the technology of GPS and how you can master its use in the backcountry.
Sample’s talk will bring listeners up to date on our GPS system and look at systems of other nations. He’ll also address current technology and the future of these systems. As a 9-year member of Chaffee County Search and Rescue South, Sample uses his extensive knowledge of GPS serving on ground teams and flying the team’s drones. The presentation will show you how, using nothing more than your phone, you can enhance your navigation in the backcountry.
Sample holds a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering and a Masters of Science in Engineering Management. He worked as an Avionics Systems Engineer for 38 years designing electronics for aircraft and space vehicles. His work included the design of the first GPS systems certified for use in aircraft.
Central Colorado Humanists sponsor Sunday Science on the first Sunday of each month at A Church, 419 D Street, Salida, CO. Each presentation is informative and features a science topic that is understandable by both scientists and non-scientists. The doors open at 9:30 a. m. and the talk begins promptly at 10 a. m. Admission is free, and the public is welcome.
