Salida High School is pleased to announce that Harper Powell has been selected as a top 5 finalist to record her own song in eTown's studio. The contest involved submitting an mp3 recording and a copy of lyrics online of an original composition. Out of the submissions, twenty high school students were chosen to come to eTown Hall and perform the original song. She was selected as one of the twenty to perform a few weeks ago. After two hours of students’ performances, the judges met to choose the top five finalists who get to record their original songs with a producer in eTown's studio. Harper was thrilled to be chosen as one of the top five! The judges included Boulder resident, singer/songwriter Gregory Alan Isakov, singer/songwriter Liz Barnez from Fort Collins, Andy Schneidkraut, Steve Szymanski - Planet Bluegrass Vice President, and Taylor Denn - eTown’s Talent Coordinator.

Harper has always been an outstanding student and walks the halls with integrity and confidence. She has been a part of our Music-COOP program for a few years and I am glad we can offer her such an experience during the school day. During this time she has worked on songwriting, learned old-time mandolin, produced a music CD, and played old flatpicking songs. It's a wonderful experience to see someone pursue their passion. Well Done!

If you see her feel free to congratulate her on her success and hard-work.
