Salida River Trail Ribbon Cutting & Volunteer Day

The Grand Opening and Ribbon Cutting for the Salida River Trail will be at 4:00 P.M. on Thursday, May 12, 2016 in Riverside Park, Salida, Colorado. The new river trail connects McCormick Park, Riverside Park, Salida Whitewater Park, Salida Skate Park, Marvin Park, Sands Lake, Frantz Lake, Colorado Parks and Wildlife Open Space Areas and the Arkansas Headwaters Recreation Area.

We also invite you to the volunteer work day to complete the finishing touches on the new river trail. Volunteers will be helping to plant trees and re-seed disturbed areas. All equipment will be provided, but volunteers are asked to bring their own gloves, water and sunscreen. Volunteers should plan to meet at 9:00 A.M on Saturday, May 14, 2016 at McCormick Park behind City Hall. An after party and lunch will be provided at River’s Edge for participating volunteers.

The Salida River Trail Project was funded by a Great Outdoors Colorado grant and fees paid by property developers in lieu of parks, trails and open space. The fees-in-lieu of parks, trails and open space ensure that a comprehensive, integrated network of parks, trails and open spaces are developed and preserved as the community grows. This project was completed without the use of Salida tax dollars.

In addition, the City received generous contributions from local groups including:
Fishing is Fun Grant Match, Chaffee County, Conservation Trust Fund, Heart of the Rockies Regional Medical Center, Collegiate Peaks Trout Unlimited, Salida Mountain Trails, Kathy Bryan Memorial Fund, Salida Dental and Hygiene, Salida-area Parks Open-space and Trails, Natural Habitats, and Pridemore Construction.
