Upcoming Salida Recreation Events and Classes for October/November 2016

RIVERSIDE PARK PLAYGROUND GRAND OPENING AND RIBBON CUTTING!
Join Salida Recreation for a grand opening celebration of the new Riverside Park Playground Friday, October 28 at 11am. Mayor Jim LiVecchi will be dong the honors of cutting the ribbon for the official opening. This playground has been funded by a GOCO Grant with contributions from Great Outdoors Colorado, City of Salida, Chaffee County Government and LiveWell Chaffee County. Riverside Park is the most used park in Salida and this playground is a huge asset to our local citizens as well as tourists to the area.

PARENT/TOT SWIM!
We know how important those early months and years are in developing your child’s likes, dislikes, fears and joys! Children just weeks old are brought to the pool so their parents can introduce them to the water. The feeling of buoyancy and weightlessness are similar to being in the womb and are both soothing and calming. We want all the young ones in our community to experience joy when being around water, so we have set aside a time each day just for them! Join us for Parent/Tot swim Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. During this time adult admission is $5 and under 5 years old is $2. We encourage parents to bring only children younger than 5 years old for this dedicated pool use time.

NOVEMBER IS MEDICAL/HEALTHCARE STAFF/ADMINISTRATORS MONTH! All medical/healthcare staff, support and administrators can bring in an employment badge or a current paystub or other proof of employment and swim FREE in the public pools all month long.

AARP SMART DRIVER SAFETY PROGRAM (formerly 55 Alive) class, will be held from 12:30 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. November 15, 2016, at the Community Room, Mt. Shavano Manor, 525 W. 16th St. in Salida. It is required that anyone attending bring their driver’s license to the class. All participants who drive to this program must park on the street as off street parking is reserved for residents of Mt. Shavano Manor. This is a defensive driving and safety review program designed especially for those who are 50 years old and older. It will qualify and/or renew state qualifications for an insurance discount for those who are 55 or older (state law). The classroom course costs only $15 for AARP members and $20 for nonmembers. Discount is per person for the member and spouse with proof of current AARP membership. Class size is limited to 20. Preregistration may be done by contacting Salida Recreation at 539-6738 up to 5:00p.m. on November 14. Walk-in’s may register at the door if space is available.
