FACILITATOR: Alissa Johnson is a nationally published and award winning writer whose work has appeared in The Wall Street Journal, The Masters Review, Dirt Rag Magazine, and Mountain Gazette among other publications. She was associate editor at the Crested Butte News for several years and holds an MFA from Western Connecticut State University (WCSU). She is also the founder of www.WritingStrides.com which helps writers make more progress toward their goals and create meaningful stories.

TOPIC: "The Art of the Short Story" - A good short story can be just as much of a page-turner as a novel or memoir—and can be just as fun (and sometimes just as challenging) to write. There’s so much to fit in just a few pages! In this workshop, try your hand at short story writing. We’ll look at what makes a short story complete, and how to write one that keeps readers engaged. You’ll also learn how to use dialogue and description to make the most of the pages you have, and leave with a short story in the works.

Exercises will be based on Natalie Goldberg's method for writing freely and spontaneously.

Attendees may volunteer to read what they write, but there is no criticism of their work. The Chaffee County Writers Exchange fosters writing and encourages publication through the sharing of resources and information.

Remember to Bring: Paper & pen or laptop and a yummy dish to share with all for our potluck lunch. We will provide tea and coffee.

Please be respectful of the group and refrain from wearing perfumes or colognes as some attendees have allergies. Thank you.

See you there!
... and in the meantime, write, write, write!

Always & Everywhere,
Jennifer Sweete
CCWE President
