Salvation Army Bell Ringing - Kickoff Meeting on Nov 3rd

edited October 2017 in Announcements

Chaffee County has a long tradition of working with various local charitable organizations during the holiday season to raise money for the local chapter of the Salvation Army. Without the help of clubs like Elks, Optimists, Rotary and others, the success of this fundraising drive would not be possible.

This year, the Chaffee County Salvation Army is looking to expand its network of volunteers. We are seeking groups from local employers, schools and the great variety of organizations that exist in our community. And, we welcome a little friendly competition between different groups to see which one can raise the most money during their respective shifts!

Each group will be able to sign up for specific dates and times between November 13 and December 24. The bell ringing campaign takes place at the Salida Walmart and Buena Vista City Market.

An organizational meeting for all volunteer organizations will be held on Friday, November 3rd at 8:30 am in the Shavano meeting room on the second floor of the Touber Building. Representatives from local clubs and other groups are invited to come hear more about this opportunity to give back to the community. Coffee and light refreshments will be served at the meeting.

If your organization is interested in participating this year but cannot send a representative to the meeting, please contact Tara Printy at 719-530-2508.

Donations collected by volunteers help those in need here in Chaffee County. Ten percent of the funds raised are kept by the parent organization and ninety percent are used directly to help Chaffee County residents. In the past year alone, over 30 assistance checks have made a difference for someone in our community. Donations may help keep a roof over the heads of a family who have hit upon hard times or keep the gas and electricity on when payments become past due. Those is need may also find assistance available to help with a medical or dental procedure or help in certain other special situations. Over $21,000 was raised last year, and Chaffee County intends to surpass that figure in 2017 with the help of community volunteers.
