Fire Mitigation Impact on Birds and Vegetation Locally on Feb. 9

More than 20,000 acres of piñon-juniper woodlands in the Arkansas River Valley have been removed or cut back by the Bureau of Land Management and private landowners to address the threat of wildfire. Western State Colorado University Professor Patrick Magee will give a free presentation on the impact of fire mitigation tree removal techniques on bird species, vegetation and fire risk from 6:30-7:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 9 at the Salida SteamPlant Event Center’s Riverside Annex, 220 W. Sackett Ave. The free program is sponsored by the Central Colorado Conservancy, formerely Land Trust of the Upper Arkansas.
